The Queen of the Damned
Lestat has risen from the earth and become a rock star, and his songs wake Akasha, the first vampire and queen of the damned.
About
The Queen of the Damned is a vampire novel by the American writer Anne Rice, published in 1988 and the third book of her Vampire Chronicles. It follows Interview with the Vampire and The Vampire Lestat, and it resolves the situation the second book left open.
Lestat, who has been lying in the earth for decades, rises and becomes a rock musician whose songs describe vampire history to a human audience. The noise wakes Akasha, the original vampire and the queen of the title, and her plan for the world is set against the older members of the species, who have to work out whether they can move against the being they came from.
Rice writes the series as a history as much as a horror story, and this volume gathers the origin of the vampires into a single account given by several narrators. It is the book that turned the story from Lestat's own record into a wider mythology, and its cast of ancient characters supplied the material for the later novels.
