Blood Canticle
Mona Mayfair, a young witch and heir to a New Orleans family, is dying at Blackwood Farm of an illness the doctors cannot name.
About
Blood Canticle is a vampire novel by the American writer Anne Rice and the tenth book in her Vampire Chronicles.
The novel is narrated by Lestat, who has returned from his adventures with the Mayfair witches and is trying to be something other than the monster he has been. He is pulled into the affairs of Mona Mayfair, who is dying, and Quinn Blackwood, the vampire who loves her, and he makes a decision about Mona that ties her to the family she was born into for good. Around them is the Mayfair inheritance, the genetic disorder that has killed their relatives for generations, and the old story about the Taltos, a species that the family's women keep bringing into the world. The spirit of Julien Mayfair watches all of it and is not on anyone's side. Rice brings her two long-running families together here, and the book is as much about a vampire trying to change his nature as it is about the witches.
The novel was written as the end of Lestat's story, though he returned in later books.
