Slightly Married
Aidan Bedwyn keeps his distance from marriage, its complications and its obligations, and he is the second of six remarkable brothers and sisters.
About
Slightly Married is a historical romance by the English-Canadian writer Mary Balogh, published in 2003 and the first book of her Bedwyn saga.
The Bedwyns are six brothers and sisters with a great deal of pride and very few inhibitions, and the novel begins with the family's second son, Aidan, an officer who has spent years in the army and intends to keep his freedom. A promise made to a dying soldier obliges him to look after the man's sister, and the arrangement he ends up proposing is a marriage in name only, which suits two people who have no intention of falling in love. Balogh writes the book as a study of a marriage of convenience between people who are both too stubborn to admit what is happening to them, and it opens a series in which each of the Bedwyn siblings takes a turn.
It is the first of the Bedwyn novels, and the brothers and sisters who carry the later books are introduced in the course of it.
