Persepolis Rising
An old enemy returns home with more power and technology than anyone thought possible, and the crew of the aging gunship Rocinante try to rally forces against the new invasion.
About
Persepolis Rising is a science fiction novel by James S. A. Corey, the pen name of Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck, and the seventh book in their Expanse series. The title was announced in September 2016 and the cover was revealed on 12 December 2016.
Twenty-eight years have passed since the events of Babylon's Ashes, and nobody has heard from Admiral Winston Duarte and his rogue fleet in the decades since they left the Martian Congressional Republic Navy and travelled through the Laconia gate. They have spent that time in the Laconia system building an advanced fleet using leftover protomolecule technology. Duarte's fleet spent those decades in the Laconia system, building ships with the protomolecule technology left behind there, so the return is an invasion by a power nobody has been watching.
The novel's politics are therefore generational. The colony worlds of the new network are unstable, the inner planets and the belt have formed an uneasy alliance haunted by earlier wars, and the threat arrives from a direction that the established powers had stopped watching. The series was adapted for television.
