Leviathan Falls
The last book of the Expanse opens with the human worlds under attack by something from beyond the gates, and with the crew of the Rocinante scattered by the events of the previous volume.
About
Leviathan Falls is a science fiction novel by James S. A. Corey, the pen name of Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck, and the ninth and final book of their Expanse series. It was published in 2021, and the title and cover art were announced by the authors at an online fan event.
The novel concludes a story that had been running since Leviathan Wakes and deals with the consequences of the ring gates that connect the human systems. The threat is no longer a political rival but the entity that built the gates, and the crew of the Rocinante has to work out what to do with a network that may be killing the people who use it, with the book splitting its attention between that problem and the people still fighting over the ruins.
Abraham and Franck wrote the series as a long future history with a consistent physics, and the final volume is where the rules established at the beginning have to be paid for. The series as a whole was adapted by Prime as a television series.
