Outcast

Outcast is a fantasy novel for young readers written under the name Erin Hunter and published by Harper in 2008. It is the third book in the Warriors: Power of Three sequence.

The Warriors books follow clans of wild cats with territories, ranks, ceremonies and a code, and this sequence follows the grandchildren of the leader Firestar. Jaypaw, Lionpaw and Hollypaw are littermates, and the prophecy that shapes their lives says that three of Firestar's kin will hold the power of the stars. Jaypaw, who cannot see, has the strongest connection to the ancestors and to the dreams in which they walk, and he becomes convinced that what he needs is not in the forest but in the mountains, where the Tribe of Rushing Water lives. His siblings have their own reasons for going with him, and the journey takes them away from the clans and into a place with older customs and a different kind of danger.

The series is written by a team publishing under one name, and the Power of Three books continue the same history that began in the earlier Warriors sequence.
