Butch O'Neal is a fighter by nature and a hard-living former homicide detective, and he is the only human ever to have been allowed into the inner circle of the Black Dagger Brotherhood.
About
Lover Revealed is a paranormal romance novel by J. R. Ward, published in 2007 and part of the Black Dagger Brotherhood sequence. Its central character, Butch O'Neal, is a former homicide detective and a fighter by nature.
He is also the only human ever to have been admitted to the inner circle of the Brotherhood, which puts him in a position nobody has occupied before. What he wants is to go deeper into the vampire world and take part in the turf war with the lessers, and he has convinced himself that he has nothing left to lose.
The reason for that conclusion is Marissa, an aristocratic vampire he considers out of his league; if he cannot have her, he reasons, he can at least fight side by side with the Brothers.
Fate then gives him the very thing he has asked for, in the form of a sacrifice he makes to save somebody else, and the novel follows what that sacrifice costs him and what it makes possible afterwards.
