Dark Destiny
As a young girl, Destiny let a vampire into her home without understanding what he was; he slaughtered her family and kept her captive, forcing her to become like him.
About
Dark Destiny is a paranormal romance novel by Christine Feehan, published in 2004 and the thirteenth book in her Dark series. Its heroine, Destiny, was a child when she unknowingly let a vampire into the family home.
The vampire killed her family and held her prisoner, and during that time she was able to connect with another being who guided her in using the abilities that would let her defeat him. The defeat did not end the connection, because the vampire's blood is still inside her, burning and calling out to other vampires.
She turns that calling into a method of hunting, using herself as bait to kill vampires in Seattle, the city she has claimed and protects. The voice that once guided her tells her that she is not what she fears she is but a Carpathian instead, and the novel sets her belief that she is evil against the evidence of the man who has been speaking to her since childhood. Destiny does not believe the claim at first, and her doubt is what keeps her fighting on her own.
