Dark Desire
Jacques Dubrinsky, the younger brother of the Carpathian leader, is tortured and buried alive by the same fanatics who attacked his family twenty-five years earlier.
About
Dark Desire is a romance novel by the American writer Christine Feehan, published in 1999 and the second book of her Dark series.
Shea O'Halloran's medical research is personal, since the disorder she is trying to understand is one she has symptoms of herself, and the novel uses that to put her in a place where a wounded Carpathian's need and her own need for an answer are the same thing. Jacques is in poor condition by the standards of his kind, having lost the memory that makes a long life bearable, and much of the book is concerned with the two of them establishing what can be trusted between a man who cannot verify his own past and a woman who has never been told what he is. Feehan's series is built on a set of rules about the Carpathians, their need for a life-mate and the risk of becoming a vampire, and this volume extends the world established in Dark Prince while keeping the romance at the centre of the plot.
