Come the Morning
In the twelfth century, with Scotland under siege, King David looks for warriors willing to fight for him with their blood and their hearts.
About
Come the Morning is a historical romance by the American writer Heather Graham, published in 1999. It is the first book in her Graham Clan series.
The novel is set in twelfth-century Scotland, in the period of the wars of the Highlands, and it begins with King David's need for warriors who would fight for him with their blood and their hearts. The greatest of these, Waryk de Graham, is knighted Lord Lion, and the honour of becoming a Scottish chieftain comes with an obligation attached to it: a Viking bride who has sworn to resist him. Mellyora MacAdin is the daughter of a Gaelic noblewoman and a Viking warlord, and she has ruled her ancestral lands on her own, wielding a sword and bowing to no man. She becomes an unwilling captive to Lord Lion's power, and the novel follows the two of them as she is caught between defiance and devotion and has to decide where her loyalty lies, and as she learns what her husband is keeping from her.
Graham researched her own family's Scottish roots as far back as the Middle Ages for this series, which explores the history and the lore of the twelfth-century Highlands.
