Awakened

Awakened is the eighth book of the House of Night series, written by the American authors P. C. Cast and Kristin Cast and published in January 2011.

The series is set in a world where some teenagers are marked as fledgling vampires and sent to live in Houses of Night, and it follows Zoey Redbird, who is unusually gifted and unusually bad at keeping her friends out of danger. This volume splits its attention between the island of Skye, where Zoey is being trained by a queen who has offered her a future she did not ask for, and the school in Tulsa, where the pieces of the previous book's betrayal are still being sorted out. The Casts write the school's social life and its supernatural politics at the same volume, so an argument between students and a confrontation with a goddess occupy similar amounts of space, and the series' long-running question is the same one this book poses: whether the people who want to protect Zoey are more dangerous than the ones who want to use her. Stevie Rae's chapters carry the other half of the plot, including the secret she has been keeping about Rephaim.
