Danvers and Navarro enter the ice caves and find a hidden laboratory connected to Tsalal. Clark tries to escape their questioning but eventually describes the researchers' arrangement with the mine: pollution helped their extraction work, and they concealed its extent. Annie discovered the arrangement and destroyed the research. Clark's account and the accompanying scenes reveal that the scientists attacked her and that he killed her after the others' assault.
Peter cleans Danvers's house and takes the bodies away, receiving Rose's help with their concealment. At Tsalal, Clark dies outside in the cold, leaving Danvers furious at the loss of their witness. The storm traps the women at the station, and their argument brings Danvers's grief for her son into the open. When she falls through the ice, Navarro rescues her. Navarro's account of seeing Holden comforts Danvers without establishing an objective explanation for the visions.
A handprint leads them to women who worked at Tsalal and discovered the laboratory's connection to Annie's murder. They describe taking the scientists at gunpoint and leaving them exposed on the ice. Their belief that a spirit decided the men's fate remains their explanation. Danvers and Navarro accept an official accidental-death conclusion, while Clark's recorded testimony exposes the mine. Later questioning finds Danvers concealing what happened to Hank, and Navarro's whereabouts remain unresolved. The final image places Navarro near Danvers without confirming how to interpret her presence.
