Maybe Tomorrow

Contains spoilers for this episode and earlier episodes.

Ray wakes after a strange vision of his father and a singer in the bar, discovering that the masked attacker used riot-control ammunition. He is injured but alive. Ani is angry that he entered Caspere's second property without her, and missing recording equipment suggests that the intruder wanted something from the house. Ray confronts Frank about the address, but Frank denies knowingly sending him into an ambush.

The detectives continue following Caspere's money and social connections. Ani and Paul visit the mayor's family and find blue diamonds among the contents of Caspere's safe-deposit box. Ray and Ani trace the car used to transport the body toward a film production where Caspere had connections. Paul's encounter with former military colleague Miguel brings unwanted memories of their intimacy, while Dixon secretly photographs them. Frank faces another loss when his associate Stan is found dead and responds to challenges from former allies with violence.

Gena offers Ray money to abandon the custody dispute and leave town, but he refuses. The investigation finally brings Ray and Ani to a former film employee, whose questioning is interrupted when a masked person sets the missing car on fire. They pursue the fleeing figure through a camp and toward the highway. Ray pulls Ani away from an approaching truck, saving her life, but the suspect escapes. The partners now owe each other more trust, even though the destroyed car removes a possible route to Caspere's killer.
