Season synopsis
Contains spoilers for this season and earlier seasons.
When Bill disappears, Sookie enlists Eric’s help and travels to Mississippi with werewolf Alcide Herveaux, who is assigned to protect her. Bill has been taken by Russell Edgington, the vampire King of Mississippi, whose ambitions threaten Louisiana’s Queen Sophie-Anne. The vampires’ interest in Sookie’s blood draws her deeper into their rivalries. Eric pursues revenge against Russell, who killed his family centuries earlier, and stakes Russell’s lover Talbot, while Sookie’s unexplained power becomes harder for the vampires to ignore.
The season widens the trouble in Bon Temps. Sam meets his birth family and gives his volatile brother Tommy a job at Merlotte’s, while Jason pursues police work and is drawn into the were-panther community of Hotshot. Jessica struggles with the consequences of feeding on a human, and Lafayette’s bond with Jesus deepens as he learns about Jesus’s brujo abilities. Tara is abducted by Franklin Mott and later helps Sookie escape Russell’s household. Alcide’s former fiancée Debbie Pelt and the werewolves remain tied to Russell’s plans.
After Russell publicly declares war on humans, Eric and Bill use his weakness to bury him alive in a building foundation filled with concrete; they entomb him rather than kill him. Bill then turns on Eric, but Eric escapes and tells Sookie that Bill had been sent to Bon Temps to bring her to Sophie-Anne. Sookie sends both vampires away and accepts Claudine’s invitation at Gran’s grave, stepping into the fairy world. Tara leaves Bon Temps, while Jason is left caring for Hotshot’s residents after Crystal departs with Felton.
