Contains spoilers for this episode and earlier episodes.

Tony worries that his visits to Melfi will be discovered, especially after seeing Silvio near her office. He hires Detective Vin Makazian to follow her, but Vin assumes that Melfi is Tony's girlfriend. When he sees her with another man, he stops their car, beats her date and arrests him. Tony considers leaving therapy, while Carmela insists that he continue, still assuming the therapist is male. Christopher remains terrified after his mock execution and becomes more distressed when he and Adriana find Brendan's body. Tony stops him from attacking Mikey, then goes after Mikey himself before confronting Junior.

Jackie Aprile dies, leaving the crime family without a clear successor. The other captains favour Tony, but he chooses a compromise that lets Junior become the public boss while Tony secures valuable properties and contracts. Melfi's advice about allowing older people a sense of control helps him settle on the arrangement. The immediate threat of a family war recedes, and Tony decides to keep attending therapy. At school, A.J. is confused when Jeremy Piocosta backs out of a fight and pays for his torn shirt. Meadow explains that Jeremy fears their father, whose friendly meeting with Jeremy's dad nevertheless frightened the man. At Jackie's funeral, she directs A.J.'s attention to the federal agents photographing the mourners, helping him understand Tony's business.
