Season 2

Season synopsis

Contains spoilers for this season and earlier seasons.

Michael opens the season by hosting the Dundies at Chili’s, where Pam gets drunk enough to push back against Roy’s insistence that they leave. At the office, the staff endure corporate harassment training and Michael’s attempt to keep the rules from spoiling his idea of a fun workplace. Jim and Pam turn a slow day into Office Olympics while Michael and Dwight close on Michael’s condo; later, Jim’s relationship with handbag seller Katy gives Pam a glimpse of the change she has been avoiding. When corporate orders Michael to fire someone, Creed talks his way out of danger and Devon loses his job.

Michael and Jan grow closer after landing a client over dinner, then kiss in the restaurant parking lot. At Christmas, Jim gives Pam a teapot filled with reminders of their friendship, but removes the note he had intended to include. On the booze cruise, Roy finally sets a wedding date, and Jim breaks up with Katy. He admits to Michael that he loves Pam; Michael encourages him to keep trying, then struggles to protect the secret when they return to work.

The season ends with the staff running a charity casino night in the warehouse. Jim tells the camera crew that he has talked with Jan about transferring to Stamford because he sees no future in Scranton. Later, he tells Pam that he loves her; she turns him down because she is engaged to Roy. After Roy leaves, Pam returns to the office, where Jim kisses her. She hesitates, then kisses him back, and the two stare at each other in silence.
