IG-11 retrieves the child from the scout troopers and heads into Nevarro, where the Mandalorian, Cara and Greef are pinned down. Gideon knows their histories, identifying the hunter as Din Djarin and revealing how much information his former Imperial position has given him. IG-11's arrival opens a chance to fight back, but Din is seriously wounded. The child turns a flametrooper's fire against him, allowing the others to reach the sewers while the droid stays behind to treat Din's injury.
Din initially refuses to remove his helmet in front of another being. IG-11 points out that it is a droid, allowing treatment without breaking that restriction. Below the town, they find the Mandalorian enclave devastated and the Armorer still at work. She explains that the child's abilities recall the Jedi, ancient enemies of their people, and makes finding its own kind Din's responsibility. Until then, they are a clan of two. She gives him a mudhorn signet and a jetpack before directing them toward an escape route.
A boat carries the group along an underground lava river, but stormtroopers wait at the exit. IG-11 walks into the lava and destroys itself to clear the ambush, fulfilling its new duty to protect the child. Gideon's TIE fighter presents one final obstacle; Din uses the jetpack to reach it and plant explosives. He later buries Kuiil and leaves with the child, while Cara and Greef remain on Nevarro. Gideon survives the crash, cutting his way out of the wreck with a dark-bladed weapon.
