Homelander kills Calhoun after learning that the president doubts his divinity, then dissolves the Seven and prepares his public ascension. Soldier Boy wants to leave, but Homelander overpowers him and returns him to stasis. The Deep also loses his place beside Homelander and is banished from the ocean by creatures blaming him for the oil disaster. Their service has offered neither the belonging nor the safety they expected.
The Boys investigate Oh Father's preparations while Frenchie experiments with giving Kimiko a power-neutralizing blast like Soldier Boy's. Synapse captures Butcher and Hughie and uses their memories to find the laboratory. Hughie distracts him long enough for Butcher to kill him, but their warning cannot reach Frenchie. Annie and Mother's Milk meanwhile save a test audience ordered killed for failing to believe the film promoting Homelander as a god.
Frenchie persuades Sage to help stabilize Kimiko's treatment, but Homelander arrives before they can leave. Sage and Kimiko hide while Frenchie draws his attention into the uranium chamber. He activates the radiation and keeps Homelander occupied, protecting the others at the cost of his own life. Once Homelander leaves, Kimiko finds Frenchie dying and holds him. The team has another way to confront its enemy, but the man who helped make it possible will not be with them to use it.
