Season 1

Season synopsis

Contains spoilers for this season and earlier seasons.

Ninety-seven years after nuclear war, resources are running out aboard the Ark, a community of linked space stations. After the Ark sends one hundred detained teenagers to Earth to test whether the planet can sustain life, Clarke, Bellamy and the others find a landscape that is habitable but dangerous. Clarke tries to set rules and keep people alive, while Bellamy’s authority rests on winning the group’s trust and letting them make their own choices. Their camp faces scarce supplies, illness and sudden violence, and arguments over how to answer the Grounders force the young survivors to act as a community rather than as isolated fugitives. Octavia also begins building a life beyond her brother’s protection through her connection with Lincoln.

The conflict ends in a Grounder assault on the camp. Clarke and Raven plan to ignite the dropship’s rocket fuel while the teenagers shelter inside. Finn and Lincoln lure Reapers into the battle, briefly distracting the attackers, and Lincoln carries the wounded Octavia away. The dropship fire kills the Grounders caught outside, but Bellamy and Finn’s whereabouts remain unknown. Meanwhile, the Ark breaks apart during its descent; Abby and Kane reach Earth, while Jaha remains alone in orbit. When the teenagers emerge from the dropship, masked Mountain Men overwhelm them with gas. Clarke wakes in a guarded room at Mount Weather and sees Monty through another room’s window.
