Aline Machado’s life in Nova Primavera changes when an attack on her home leaves her husband Samuel dead. With her son João to protect, the mathematics teacher refuses to surrender the farm Samuel fought to keep. Jonatas helps her learn the machinery, planting and business of agriculture, while her mother Jussara worries that staying will put them in danger. Their powerful neighbour Antônio La Selva wants the land, but his sons Caio and Daniel both fall in love with Aline. Daniel’s engagement to Graça and his mother Irene’s determination to protect her own children make the romance part of a bitter struggle within the La Selva family.
Irene arranges for the brakes of Caio’s car to be sabotaged, only for Daniel to drive it and die in the crash. Caio’s mother Agatha, whom he believed dead since his birth, returns after decades away and learns Irene’s secret. Her return exposes another layer of deception in the family, but Agatha herself becomes a murder victim. The final revelation involves three people: Angelina deliberately poisons her, Gentil pushes her down the stairs, and Irene shoots her. The apparent explanations conceal a much more deliberate crime.
Antônio’s violence finally reaches Caio and Aline’s wedding, which he invades intending to kill the bride. When he takes Kelvin hostage and stabs him, Ramiro shoots Antônio dead. Ramiro goes to prison, where he and Kelvin later marry. Aline gives birth to twins Clara and Francisco, while Caio and Petra inherit the estate and plan a clinic for women who have suffered violence. Caio and Aline also return stolen Indigenous land to Jurecê. Irene escapes punishment and reappears in Rio with a new partner and an adopted baby she names Daniel.
