Season 5

Season synopsis

Contains spoilers for this season and earlier seasons.

Voyager keeps searching for a faster route home while the crew settles into the life they have built in the Delta Quadrant. In “Timeless,” Harry Kim’s quantum slipstream calculations send Voyager into disaster in one possible future: the ship crashes on an ice world and nearly everyone dies. Fifteen years later, Kim and Chakotay use a temporal message to warn their younger selves. That future is erased when Voyager safely drops out of slipstream, still far from Earth but ten years closer than before.

In “Dark Frontier,” Janeway plans to steal a damaged Borg sphere’s transwarp coil to shorten Voyager’s route home. Seven studies her parents’ logs for the mission, but the Queen threatens Voyager and coerces her into staying with the Borg. The Queen wants Seven’s memories to help assimilate humanity. Janeway leads a Delta Flyer rescue, and the stolen coil takes Voyager fifteen years closer to home before burning out. Later, the Doctor coaches Seven through social encounters and a date. He develops romantic feelings, while she regards him as a friend.

The USS Equinox has also been stranded in the Delta Quadrant, but Captain Ransom and his crew have been killing alien lifeforms and using their energy as fuel to shorten the journey. Janeway condemns the experiments and confines the Equinox officers, yet their EMH helps them escape. They seize Voyager’s protective field generator and flee with Seven and the Doctor aboard. With the aliens breaking through Voyager’s shields and attacking the bridge, the season ends before Janeway’s crew can recover their shipmates or stop the Equinox.
