Season 9

Season synopsis

Contains spoilers for this season and earlier seasons.

Clark begins the season using the Blur identity while grieving Jimmy and dealing with the damage Doomsday left behind. His partnership with Chloe and Oliver is strained by their fear of another alien threat, while his bond with Lois grows at the Daily Planet. A group of Kryptonians arrives through the Orb, led by Major Zod, and Clark tries to help them adjust to Earth. Their missing powers become a mystery, and Zod’s search for a way to restore them turns the newcomers into a danger.

The episode ‘Kandor’ reveals that these people are clones made from Kryptonian blood samples, including younger versions of Zod and Jor-El. Jor-El secretly irradiated the Orb with blue kryptonite so the clones would arrive without powers. Zod sees this as betrayal and pursues power through solar towers and Clark’s blood; restored abilities let him command his soldiers. Meanwhile, Checkmate targets the Justice League, and Lois is physically sent to a future where Zod rules under a red sun. Clark keeps his identity from her until a farewell kiss in the finale lets Lois recognize him as the Blur.

When Zod’s Kandorians launch attacks on Earth, Clark seeks a way to spare them and humanity. The Book of Rao begins sending the Kandorians away; Zod uses a blue-kryptonite dagger to keep himself and Clark powerless and outside its pull. Clark deliberately impales himself on the dagger, then falls from the building carrying it away from Zod. Once out of its range, Zod regains his powers and ascends after the others. Oliver is also missing after the satellite mission. The season ends with Clark’s fall unresolved.
