Lois saves Clark by removing the blue-kryptonite dagger from his body, already knowing that he is the Blur. Their relationship becomes more open when he finally tells her himself, and they become engaged. Meanwhile, Oliver publicly identifies himself as Green Arrow, exposing the heroes to growing hostility. Darkseid exploits that fear through followers who turn people against them. Clark also meets an alternate version of his life in which Lionel Luthor raised him instead of the Kents; returning home brings that world's Lionel into his own.
Tess discovers Lex's cloning operation and takes responsibility for a young clone named Alexander. He grows rapidly, but his identity becomes more complicated when she learns that he combines Clark's DNA with Lex's. Renamed Conner, he struggles with his powers and Lionel's manipulation before Clark takes him under his protection. Away from the Luthors, Brainiac 5 shows Clark his past, present and possible future, challenging his guilt over Jonathan's death and his fear of what lies ahead. The glimpse of his future with Lois helps him move forward.
Darkseid's approach interrupts Clark and Lois's wedding. Chloe stops the possessed Oliver from giving Clark a gold-kryptonite ring, and Clark helps free his friend. Lionel bargains away his soul to restore Lex, who kills Tess; before dying, she erases Lex's memories with a neurotoxin. With Apokolips descending toward Earth, Clark confronts Darkseid inside Lionel's body and finally flies. He receives the Superman suit, rescues Air Force One and pushes the threatening planet back into space. Seven years later, Clark and Lois still work at the Daily Planet and are preparing again to marry, while Lex has become president. Clark leaves to answer another emergency as Superman.
