Season synopsis

Fiona wants to help Ian after his arrest, but he refuses to leave jail while he believes he can protect the men who follow his prison ministry. She tries to raise bail money using the value of her building. At the same time, boyfriend Ford’s evasions and a risky development deal undermine her judgment. She crashes her car while drinking, breaks her wrist and has to sell the apartment building. When she stops keeping up with bills, Debbie scrambles to preserve the household’s utilities, while Lip tells Fiona she cannot keep hurting the family and makes her leave.
Ian’s prison following grows out of the “Gay Jesus” movement, but he remains in prison to serve his sentence. Lip continues caring for Xan and starts a relationship with Tami; her pregnancy gives their uncertain connection a new responsibility. Debbie takes on more household work, while Frank becomes involved with Ingrid. Fiona’s drinking and isolation alarm her family.
With Fiona facing assault charges and financial trouble, business partner Max buys her out of their real-estate deal. The money lets Fiona settle her legal fees and choose a life beyond the South Side. She visits Ian in prison, and he urges her to go; Lip and Debbie support her decision and prepare a farewell gathering. Fiona slips away before it begins, leaving Debbie a note and $50,000. Frank gives Fiona only a grudging acknowledgment of the years she raised the family, and she boards a plane for an unspecified destination.
