George begins the season as the Yankees’ assistant to the traveling secretary. He hires a secretary to keep clear of temptation, falls for her, and promises a raise he cannot authorize. In another story, he answers a Daily Worker personal ad and the connection reaches Steinbrenner; later, sweating at the Yankees clubhouse makes George a suspect when thefts occur.
Jerry dates Lois, whose boss Duncan Meyer challenges Jerry’s old claim about winning a high-school race and forces a rematch. Later, after dating a girlfriend who never laughs, Jerry tries to switch to her roommate. George’s dates include a model who rushes to the bathroom after dinner and Bonnie, whose male roommate makes him jealous. Elaine lends Mr. Pitt’s tennis racket to a job interviewer but cannot retrieve it when a match turns into a matter of life and death.
By the finale, Jerry is dating Gennice, an understudy to Bette Midler in the musical Rochelle Rochelle. George, playing softball with Jerry, accidentally crashes into Midler while sprinting home; the press reads the injury as a plot to promote Gennice, who does take the stage, then breaks down when her bootlace comes loose. Kramer sides with Midler and turns on the others. Elaine, after Frank helps translate insults from her Korean manicurists, meets J. Peterman and is hired to write for his catalog.
