Season 5

Season synopsis

Contains spoilers for this season and earlier seasons.

Jerry and George open the season in awkward recovery: Jerry’s history with Elaine resurfaces when she admits she had faked orgasms, while George’s insecurity follows a string of unstable jobs and dates. Kramer’s refusal to accept a bad peach pulls the others into his grocery feud. George briefly lands as a hand model, then lets the attention go to his head; Jerry, meanwhile, agrees to wear a puffy pirate shirt after misunderstanding its designer.

Elaine receives a promotion and raise and reconciles with Jake, while Jerry, Kramer and Newman suspect their accountant Barry is stealing their money to fund a cocaine habit and set up a sting. Kramer takes his coffee-table book on television but spits coffee on Kathie Lee and loses the tour. At a popular yogurt shop, Jerry accidentally teaches its owner's young son to swear; a lab test then reveals the “non-fat” yogurt contains fat, and the scandal becomes an issue in the mayoral race.

At Monk’s, George stops trusting the habits that have repeatedly failed him. He speaks plainly to Victoria, holds back instead of making an early move, and lands an interview through her uncle; George Steinbrenner hires him as the Yankees’ assistant to the traveling secretary, and he finally leaves his parents’ home. Elaine loses Jake after putting candy before a hospital visit, and Pendant collapses when a botched business meeting kills its acquisition. She ends the season jobless, describing her reversal as having become George.
