Episode 6

Contains spoilers for this episode and earlier episodes.

The opening of the Grace Shelby Institute brings Tommy into public view as a charitable father, but Charlie disappears from the gathering. Hughes has the child taken and uses him to force the Shelbys to follow the operation's demands. Tommy scrambles to locate his son while the robbery and train mission approach their deadlines. The family must carry out several tasks before it knows whether Charlie will be safe.

Tommy digs towards the Russian strong room with his former tunnelling comrades, returning to work that recalls the war. Michael confronts Hughes and kills him, and Charlie is recovered. Arthur and John carry out the train explosion when the message that could prevent it does not arrive in time. The jewel theft succeeds, and Tatiana's private arrangement with Tommy separates her profit from the interests of her own relatives.

The family gathers expecting payment and a chance to move on. Arthur and Linda prepare to leave, but Tommy announces warrants for Arthur, John, Michael and Polly. Their enemies control the police and courts, he says, and he has made a deal with more powerful people in return for evidence. The arrests go ahead despite his assurances. The season ends with relatives accusing Tommy of betrayal, while the terms and protection offered by his deal remain unresolved.
