The rush to profit before Cali's planned surrender produces a chemical spill that poisons a residential area. David Rodríguez supervises the careless disposal behind the disaster, and civilians die, including children. A local inspector investigates, while journalist Carolina Álvarez recognises that the incident may lead back to the cartel. The Rodríguez brothers need the inquiry contained before it threatens their arrangement with the government.
Jorge Salcedo is sent to discover leverage over the inspector. His work depends on the cartel's access to private communications and its ability to turn personal secrets into obedience. Although he hopes to leave for a legitimate security business, the assignment requires him to help protect the men responsible. At home, he tries to separate that work from his relationship with Paola and their daughters.
Chepe confronts rivals in New York whose demand for ether interferes with Cali's cocaine production, killing the men at a hair salon. In Colombia, María Salazar presses Miguel for the truth about her missing husband and learns that Claudio is dead. The chemical investigation ends with the inspector blaming a faulty gas line, while Gilberto presents a public gesture toward the victims. The cover-up convinces Peña to send Chris Feistl and Daniel Van Ness into Cali, putting investigators on the ground inside the cartel's protected territory.
