Whiterose survives the raid on her house after Dark Army gunmen kill the FBI team. Elliot travels to the Washington Township plant despite Mr. Robot's objections and installs malware intended to disable her machine. He finds little resistance inside before the Dark Army takes him to a room where Whiterose is waiting. She argues that the world is cruel and that her project can replace it with something better. Elliot answers that the people who love him make this world worth saving, even when he struggles to love himself. Whiterose says the machine has already been activated, then shoots herself, leaving him with the approaching disaster.
Elliot uses an old computer to play the adventure game left in the room. Its choices lead him to remain with a trapped companion rather than escape alone. Mr. Robot joins him, and they express their love for each other as the room is overwhelmed by light. The episode then follows another version of Elliot through an apparently happier life. His father is alive and runs the Mr. Robot shop, Angela is preparing to marry him, and Darlene does not exist as his sister. He heads Allsafe and meets Tyrell, now connected to F Corp. Earthquakes and flashes of unfamiliar images disturb the day. Returning home, this Elliot finds the hooded Elliot sitting at his computer.
