Spoilers for this episode.
Three weeks after the bombings, Elliot withdraws from Darlene and destroys records of his hacking. News of Trenton and Mobley's deaths adds to the guilt he already feels over Five/Nine. He gives away his dog, discards his father's jacket and visits the dead hackers' families. Mobley's brother refuses to honour him because he believes the terrorism accusations. Trenton's family is preparing to leave, and Elliot tells them that their daughter was a good person.
Elliot goes to Coney Island intending to end his life, but Trenton's younger brother Mohammed follows him and interrupts. Taking the boy home does not finish the encounter, since his parents are away. Mohammed persuades Elliot to go to the cinema, where a Back to the Future screening offers a temporary escape. When the boy disappears, Elliot searches for him and eventually finds him at a mosque. Their conversation brings Elliot's grief and wish to die into the open, while Mohammed's need for company keeps him involved with another person.
After returning Mohammed home, Elliot decides to stay alive. He pressures Mobley's brother into arranging a proper funeral and visits Angela, speaking through her closed door about a wishing game they played as children. Back at his apartment, he retrieves the discarded jacket and resumes using his computer. An email arranged by Trenton before her death offers a possible way to reverse Five/Nine, with the necessary information held by the FBI. Elliot now has work he wants to survive to attempt.
