Elliot proposes destroying Steel Mountain's magnetic tape backups by secretly raising the temperature inside the facility. A Raspberry Pi connected to the climate controls would let fsociety overheat the tapes without the explosion he refused to support. The group must move before E Corp spreads its backups across more locations. Elliot travels with Mr. Robot, Romero and Mobley, but his withdrawal becomes severe enough to stop them at a motel. Romero doubts that Elliot can complete the job in this condition. Darlene and Trenton remain behind to secure the Dark Army's help against E Corp's other backups.
While confined to the motel, Elliot experiences an extended series of hallucinations. A trip to a drug house, a shooting and strange encounters with Angela and his pet fish unfold within his confused perception; they do not establish that those events happened outside his mind. He eventually wakes and recovers enough to continue toward Steel Mountain. Elsewhere, Angela takes the malicious CD and Ollie's Allsafe badge while he sleeps. After a night out with Shayla, she enters the office using his credentials and puts the disc into his computer. Darlene meets Cisco, her contact with the Dark Army, but receives no firm commitment. Elliot's team resumes its journey with the physical intrusion still ahead and the second half of the attack uncertain.
