Monk

Season 6

Season synopsis

Contains spoilers for this season and earlier seasons.

Monk’s work keeps testing his trust in people close to him. He investigates a murder that threatens Captain Stottlemeyer’s relationship with Linda Fusco, and he connects another case to the growing pains in Natalie’s daughter Julie’s love life. The season also revisits familiar rivals: Monk helps a wrongly convicted man after DNA clears him, and later finds Harold Krenshaw beneath the Frisco Fly costume. Marci Maven returns with a murder accusation of her own, while Monk’s efforts to help Dr. Kroger’s son lead him into a treasure hunt tied to a bank robbery.

The closing two-parter brings Trudy’s murder back to the foreground. After Frank Nunn, the six-fingered man tied to the bombing, is killed, Monk is charged with the crime and escapes custody to find the real story. Stottlemeyer secretly keeps him alive with a bulletproof vest; while Monk hides under a false name in Nevada, he spots clues to a hit-and-run and solves that separate case at a car wash. Natalie works out that the supposed death was staged and joins him, while Stottlemeyer and Disher uncover sheriff Rollins’s corrupt arrangement with Dale the Whale. Monk connects the payoff to a plot against the governor and uses Dale’s repeated hints to expose the plan. The group stops the bombing, and Rollins gives the district attorney a full confession that implicates the lieutenant governor. Papers from Nunn’s apartment also show that he was hired by a figure known only as “the Judge,” leaving the identity of Trudy’s killer unresolved.
