Season 11

Season synopsis

Contains spoilers for this season and earlier seasons.

Haley and Dylan begin raising their twins, Poppy and George, with Phil and Claire close enough to offer help and disagree with their methods. Gloria pursues real estate work alongside Phil, while Jay tries to make his dog-bed business succeed. Claire becomes exhausted by the job she once wanted and resigns; Luke seeks his parents' support for leaving college to develop an app. Phil also faces a loss that cannot be managed with his usual optimism. After visiting his father Frank in Florida and spending one last day with him, he learns that Frank has died.

Mitchell and Cameron adopt a baby boy, Rexford, and move into a new house, only for Cameron's hoped-for college coaching job in Missouri to become available. Mitchell is delighted with their new home, making Cameron reluctant to raise the possibility of another move. Once the offer comes out, they decide to take it and prepare Lily for the change. Meanwhile, the Dunphy house has become so crowded that Phil and Claire retreat to an RV in the driveway. Their demand that somebody move out produces more departures than they expected.

Haley and Dylan find an apartment for themselves and the twins, Alex chooses research work in Switzerland alongside Arvin, and Luke gains a place at the University of Oregon. Manny prepares to travel, while Jay secretly learns Spanish so he can accompany Gloria and Joe to Colombia. Repeated flight delays give the family several attempts at saying goodbye before Mitchell and Cameron finally leave. Phil and Claire plan an RV journey of their own, with the porch light left on for the children who will return.
