Spoilers for this episode and earlier episodes of Lost.
The island's final flashes leave Sawyer, Juliet, Miles, Jin and Daniel in 1974. They rescue Amy from two Others, although her husband Paul has already been killed. Amy leads them to the Dharma barracks and tricks them into crossing the active sonic fence. When Sawyer wakes, he calls himself James LaFleur and invents a story about a shipwreck and missing crewmates. Horace initially intends to send the newcomers away on the submarine.
Richard arrives to challenge the deaths of his people and the broken truce. Sawyer takes responsibility and uses his knowledge of Richard's meeting with Locke in 1954 to make Richard listen. The immediate dispute is settled, and Horace allows Sawyer's group to stay temporarily while searching for their supposed crew. Juliet wants to leave, but Sawyer asks her to remain with him. Daniel sees a young Charlotte living at the barracks after losing the adult Charlotte during the flashes.
Three years later, Sawyer has become Dharma's head of security, and the group still lives at the barracks. He and Juliet now share a home and a relationship. When Amy goes into labor while Horace is drunk, Sawyer persuades Juliet to help despite her previous losses while treating pregnant women on the island. Juliet successfully delivers Amy's baby. Sawyer tells Horace that three years can be enough to move on from a lost relationship. The next morning, Jin calls with news of Jack, Kate and Hurley, and Sawyer goes to meet them.
