Sun becomes distressed when she cannot find her wedding ring and begins tearing apart her garden. Locke talks with her about finding something by ceasing to search for it. Kate tries to help, and Sun reveals that the raft's message bottle washed ashore and that she buried it. They dig it up together. Kate starts reading the messages, upset that she never said goodbye to Sawyer, but Sun asks her to respect their privacy. As they stand at the burial spot, Kate notices the missing ring in the sand. Sun recovers it, while Jin remains on the other side of the island with the tail-section group.
The groups prepare to travel toward the main camp, but Michael sets off alone to search for Walt. Jin and Eko follow his trail. They find Goodwin's body and hide as a line of barefoot people passes nearby, one carrying a teddy bear. Eko ultimately persuades Michael to return with them rather than continue an exposed search. Flashbacks follow Sun's arranged dates with Jae Lee and Jin's work as a hotel doorman. Jae admits that he intends to marry someone else. Jin quits after his manager humiliates him for allowing a poorly dressed father and child inside. Later, Jin turns away from a passing woman in an orange dress and collides with Sun, beginning their first meeting.
