Flashbacks trace Charlie's relationship with his brother Liam and their band, Drive Shaft. Charlie wants to leave the drugs and excess behind, but Liam persuades him to accept a recording contract and promises they can walk away together. Liam's behaviour worsens, and Charlie begins using heroin himself. Years later, Charlie seeks a reunion tour in Australia. Liam has recovered and refuses to return, offering rehabilitation instead, but Charlie angrily leaves to catch his flight.
On the island, Charlie struggles with withdrawal and asks Locke to return his drugs. Locke promises to comply with a third request, leaving Charlie responsible for the choice. At the caves, an argument with Jack is interrupted by a collapse that traps the doctor. Michael organises a rescue, and Charlie squeezes through a narrow opening to reach him. Another fall traps them both, but Charlie follows a moth toward a way out and helps Jack escape.
Sayid attempts to triangulate the French broadcast while the rescue disrupts his team's positions. Sawyer and Shannon take over antenna duties as the others head toward the caves. Just as the coordinated signals allow Sayid to begin, an unseen attacker knocks him unconscious. Charlie later makes his third request to Locke and receives the heroin. After looking at the packet, he throws it into the fire, choosing to destroy the supply he had repeatedly asked to recover.
