A woman interrupts Lightman's book signing because she believes a psychic vision has shown her a murder. Trisha is one of several identities within Sophie, and the team finds that those identities hold different pieces of a real experience. Blood in a motel room establishes that something happened there, while a missing wallet and Sophie's brother help Lightman reconstruct her movements. Her apparent vision becomes a witness account rather than proof of supernatural knowledge.
The victim is Amber, a sex worker who was with Sophie's Jessie identity. Lightman deliberately provokes Sophie's protective identity, RJ, to recover information about the killing. Sophie then approaches the hotel manager disguised as Jessie while the investigators listen. The confrontation draws out his confession, and they intervene before he can harm her. The episode presents these methods as part of its fictional investigation, with Sophie's fragmented recollection driving the search.
Torres separately vets a Supreme Court nominee and discovers an improper kiss in his past. She changes her assessment after distinguishing that incident from the affair she initially suspected. Zoe also plans to move to Chicago with Emily, so Lightman buys her share of the consultancy to let her establish a practice locally. Keeping his daughter nearby comes at a cost: he has committed company money without consulting Gillian, who confronts him about the decision.
