Hui-jae drugs Sang-tae and confronts Gang-tae at the mansion, insisting that Moon-young is an artwork he has spoiled. She recounts killing the brothers' mother after the woman questioned Moon-young's behavior and offered help. Gang-tae nearly strangles her but stops, allowing Hui-jae to inject him. Moon-young arrives and raises a sharp object against her mother; Gang-tae catches it in his hand. When Hui-jae moves against Moon-young again, Sang-tae strikes her with a large book and protects them both. Police arrest Hui-jae, and Director Oh assures Sang-tae that Gang-tae will wake.
The arrest leaves Moon-young convinced that her mother's actions will make life together unbearable. She orders the brothers to move out, cancels the book and tells Sang-in she is retiring. Sang-tae refuses to abandon their work, while Gang-tae resigns from the hospital and admits to Director Oh that he is struggling too. Friends arrange a meal at Soon-duk's house so Moon-young will eat and see that people care about her. Sang-tae then gives her a drawing of Gang-tae looking genuinely happy in his sleep. He wants their published book to be something he can show their mother's memorial tree. Moon-young visits the tree to apologize. Gang-tae follows, repeatedly tells her he loves her and returns with her to the mansion, where they kiss.
