After the confrontation, Sang-tae stays in a hospital room while Gang-tae waits outside. Gang-tae admits to Moon-young that he once wanted his brother dead and tells her she should not have saved him. Director Oh eventually gets Sang-tae out of the room by taking Gang-tae elsewhere, then invites the caretaker back to work. Gang-tae tries to abandon the relationship with Moon-young, telling her their time together was a brief mistake. She refuses to accept that this cancels his promise to stay. Soon-duk brings Sang-tae home, where Gang-tae apologizes for his childhood words and his hesitation at the lake. Sang-tae embraces him and asks him not to leave.
Ju-ri collects the brothers' belongings from the mansion and drinks with Moon-young, admitting how jealous she feels. Sang-in arrives afterward and tells Moon-young that people cannot be ranked by who matters most. The hospital's mystery grows when Ok-ran hums the familiar song and provokes Dae-hwan into attacking her. Director Oh wonders whether she knows his wife or could be the woman herself; neither possibility is established. Moon-young seeks a birthday meal from Soon-duk and returns Mang-tae to Sang-tae, explaining the lonely child behind The Boy Who Cried Wolf. That night, Ok-ran escapes the hospital and appears at Moon-young's door with a birthday greeting. Gang-tae rushes toward the mansion, afraid of what the visit means.
