The Princess and the Queen

Contains spoilers for this episode and earlier episodes.

Ten years after her wedding, Rhaenyra gives birth to a third son, Joffrey, and is immediately summoned to show him to Alicent. The queen continues to question why none of Rhaenyra's children resemble Laenor. Harwin Strong's protective attention to the boys makes those suspicions harder to dismiss, especially when Criston provokes him during a training session and Harwin responds by attacking the knight in front of witnesses.

Rhaenyra offers a marriage between Jacaerys and Helaena to repair the split between the families, but Alicent rejects the gesture. Harwin leaves for Harrenhal with his father Lyonel, whose wish to resign as Hand cannot be explained without exposing the same family secret. Rhaenyra decides that staying at court has become too dangerous and takes her household to Dragonstone, allowing Laenor to bring his companion Qarl with them.

In Pentos, Daemon and Laena live with their daughters away from Westeros. When another difficult childbirth leaves Laena facing death, she goes to Vhagar and commands her dragon to burn her. Back in the capital, Alicent tells Larys Strong that she misses her father's support. Larys uses condemned prisoners to arrange a fire at Harrenhal that kills both his father and Harwin. Alicent is horrified when he treats their deaths as a service she will repay.
