Serena returns to New York with Steven Spence, whose teenage daughter Sage is secretly dating Nate. Blair works to make Waldorf Designs succeed while Chuck uncovers what his father Bart is hiding. Dan and Georgina collaborate on a book exposing the Upper East Side, and Nate struggles to keep The Spectator afloat. Serena and Dan circle back toward each other, while Blair and Chuck pursue careers separately, waiting until they can be together without sacrificing their ambitions.
Chuck’s investigation uncovers evidence of Bart’s illegal business dealings, and Blair, Serena, Georgina, Sage and Ivy help him obtain it. Bart learns of their plan and protects his position. In the penultimate episode, their confrontation moves to a hotel roof; Blair arrives during their fight and sees Bart hanging from the edge. Chuck refuses to pull him up, and Bart falls to his death. Chuck and Blair flee as police treat Chuck as a person of interest.
Jack advises Chuck that marrying Blair will prevent her from being forced to testify against him, and Chuck proposes. Blair accepts, and they marry in Central Park before police arrive. Serena reads an alternate chapter Dan wrote about her and stays to confront him. Dan gives Nate a separate final chapter, published in The Spectator, revealing he created Gossip Girl to enter the world he wanted to join. Five years later, Serena and Dan marry; Chuck and Blair have a son, Henry. Nate is thriving at the paper and considering politics as the former friends gather for the wedding.
