A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms

Contains spoilers for this episode and earlier episodes.

Jaime stands before Daenerys and Sansa, revealing that Cersei will not send her army. Brienne vouches for him, persuading them to let him stay and fight. He apologizes to Bran, who declines to expose him or seek revenge. Daenerys blames Tyrion for trusting Cersei, but Jorah asks her to keep him as Hand. Daenerys then tries to reconcile with Sansa, only to face an unanswered question about northern independence. Theon returns and receives an emotional welcome from Sansa.

Tormund, Beric and Edd arrive with news that the dead will reach Winterfell before morning. The defenders prepare their positions, and Bran proposes waiting in the godswood to draw out the Night King. Theon volunteers to protect him with the ironborn, while Jon and Daenerys plan to use their dragons against the enemy's leader. Sam gives Jorah the Tarly sword Heartsbane. Elsewhere, Arya asks Gendry about his past, then chooses to spend the night with him before the battle.

Tyrion, Jaime, Brienne, Podrick, Davos and Tormund gather by a fire with drinks and memories. When Brienne explains that women cannot be knights, Jaime points out that any knight can make another. He asks her to kneel and formally knights her, to the others' applause. Podrick sings as the people of Winterfell wait for the attack. In the crypts, Jon tells Daenerys that Rhaegar and Lyanna were his parents. She questions the account and recognizes its implications for her claim, but horns interrupt them as the dead approach.
