Jaime receives Alton in his prison pen and listens to his memories of serving as a squire. He kills his cousin to draw Torrhen Karstark inside, strangles the guard and escapes. After his recapture, Rickard Karstark demands revenge for his son's death. Catelyn prevents an immediate execution while Robb is away, then confronts Jaime. He defends the contradictions in his vows and insults Ned, prompting her to ask Brienne for a sword.
Tywin searches for Amory Lorch's killer, assuming the attack was meant for him, and notices Arya's noble upbringing. Ygritte escapes Jon again and leads him into a wildling ambush. In Qarth, Pyat Pree admits taking the dragons to the House of the Undying. Xaro declares himself king, and Pree kills the other members of the Thirteen. Daenerys escapes with Jorah and Kovarro after discovering that her host has joined forces with the warlock.
Theon discovers that Bran and Rickon have escaped and pursues them with hounds, taking Luwin along despite his objections. The trail leads to a farm, where the search fails to produce the boys. Theon refuses to return empty-handed and sends Luwin back to Winterfell. Later, he gathers the castle's people beneath two burned bodies and presents them as a warning. Luwin cries out in horror, believing the dead children are Bran and Rickon.
