Frasier

Season 3

Season synopsis

Contains spoilers for this season and earlier seasons.

Frasier's Seattle life grows more settled, but his certainty that he can diagnose everyone else keeps producing trouble at KACL and at home. He and Niles continue competing over careers, culture and romantic prospects, while Martin punctures their pretensions with direct questions. Niles's marriage to Maris breaks down after he challenges her and she asks for a divorce, leaving him increasingly exposed about his long-standing feelings for Daphne. In “Moon Dance,” he prepares for a society ball with Daphne as his dance partner; their performance briefly looks like a romantic declaration, but she explains that she was helping him impress his friends. After Maris cuts off Niles's money, he must adjust to life without her wealth while trying to preserve his place in Seattle society.

At the radio station, Frasier's relationship with station manager Kate Costas becomes more personal before she leaves Seattle for a new job, another reminder that his professional life cannot neatly contain his feelings. The finale marks three years since Frasier's first broadcast: Roz gives him a tape of that awkward opening show, and listening sends him back to his arrival in Seattle. Before playing it, he overhears Daphne calling him a tyrant on the phone to her mother, only to discover she is using him as an excuse to avoid a family visit. His awkward voice on the recording then recalls how uncertain he was at the start of his new career.
