Sheriff Roy Tillman explains why he hired Ole Munch to abduct Dot: she is his estranged wife, and her recent fingerprints revealed where she lives. Munch demands more money because Roy concealed how dangerous the job would be. Roy agrees to pay, then sends Gator to kill him instead. Munch fights his way out, leaving Gator injured and two henchmen dead. FBI investigators question Roy about his refusal to enforce federal law, but he insists that his elected position lets him decide what the law means. He treats their questions as an intrusion rather than a demand he must answer.
Indira questions Dot about the blood left at her house, but Dot maintains that she disappeared voluntarily. Wayne supports her account, while Lorraine suspects a scheme to obtain the family's money. Lorraine offers Dot money to leave Wayne; Dot refuses and threatens her if she interferes. Dot and Scotty then install homemade traps, including electrified wiring and a sledgehammer above the door. Wayne is alarmed by the weapons but lets Dot persuade him they need protection. At the hospital, Gator deletes Dot's photograph from Indira's phone before Witt can identify her. Later, Munch kills Gator's partner at the gas station and leaves a knife and a demand for payment on the body.
