Dot Lyon tries to leave a violent school committee meeting with her daughter Scotty, but accidentally tasers a police officer and is arrested. Deputy Indira Olmstead books her, and Dot worries about her fingerprints entering a national database. Wayne, her husband, bails her out before taking the family to his wealthy mother Lorraine's house for a Christmas photograph. The next morning, Ole Munch and Donald Ireland break into Dot's home. She burns Ireland's mask and slashes Munch with an ice skate, but they overpower her and drive away with her. Wayne and Scotty discover blood in the house and report her disappearance.
A traffic stop gives Dot a chance to flee, and the kidnappers shoot at the state troopers pursuing them. One trooper dies; Witt Farr reaches a gas station, where Dot is hiding, with a bullet wound in his leg. Dot uses ice to make Ireland fall and fatally strike his head. Munch kills the clerk, then Dot knocks him unconscious with a shovel. She stops Witt's bleeding, but Munch disappears while she helps him. Dot leaves before more police arrive and returns home to make pancakes. When Wayne finds her in the kitchen, she insists she was only out clearing her head and denies being kidnapped.
