In 1987, Stavros Milos is stranded with his family after their car runs out of fuel. Desperate and in debt, he prays, then discovers a briefcase of cash buried beside a red ice scraper. He treats the money as God's answer. In the present, Don poses as a plumber and suggests that Stavros's bloody shower resembles a biblical plague. Malvo watches nearby until Gus spots and arrests him. Molly wants to travel to Duluth to question the suspect, but Bill goes himself. Malvo presents identification as Frank Peterson, a Lutheran minister, and supplies an alibi that convinces the police.
Molly learns the name Lorne Malvo, but her information reaches Gus after the prisoner has been released. Malvo leaves Gus with a riddle about the human eye's ability to distinguish shades of green. He and Don then release crickets in Stavros's supermarket, adding another apparent plague to the blackmail campaign. Meanwhile, Lester's wounded hand continues to worsen. Wrench and Numbers abduct him and prepare to kill him, but he uses a stun gun to escape. He punches a police officer to secure an arrest and protection in jail. The two hitmen stage a bar fight and get themselves placed in his cell.
