All My Life, My Heart Has Yearned for a Thing I Cannot Name

Contains spoilers for this episode and earlier episodes.

Cassie interrupts Our Life and accuses Lexi of exploiting other people's experiences. When the play recreates her humiliating carnival moment, she attacks the actress portraying her. Maddy joins the confrontation and chases Cassie backstage, bringing their damaged friendship into the performance itself. Rue encourages the crowd to support Lexi, who resumes the play and dedicates it to the absent Fezco despite the chaos around her.

At Fezco's home, Faye tries to warn him that Custer is recording their conversation. Ashtray kills Custer before Fezco can stop him, then refuses Fezco's attempt to take responsibility and surrender. He barricades himself in the bathroom with weapons as police arrive. Fezco begs him to stop but is wounded during the shooting, and Ashtray is killed. Fezco is taken into custody, leaving his flowers and his promised evening with Lexi behind.

Nate confronts Cal and reveals that he has supplied police with his father's recordings, leading to Cal's arrest. Rue thanks Elliot for exposing her relapse, then tells Lexi that the play helped her look at her past without hating herself. Jules says that she loves and misses Rue; Rue responds with a goodbye kiss and leaves alone. Her narration says she remains sober through the rest of the school year, closing the episode with a limited period of recovery rather than a promise that addiction is finished.
