Lexi presents Our Life to a school audience that gradually recognizes itself in the characters onstage. The play revisits Rue's grief after her father's death, Cassie and Lexi's childhood, and Maddy's stay with the Howard family during her parents' separation. Memories shift into staged scenes, so the performance shows how Lexi has understood events she usually watched from the edge of the room.
Rue responds warmly to seeing her experience represented, while Cassie becomes increasingly uncomfortable with the version of herself in the play. Ethan performs several roles, including the characters based on Suze and Nate. A football-team dance to Holding Out for a Hero makes Nate feel publicly mocked. He storms out, calls the performance homophobic and tells Cassie to leave his house. His rejection turns her discomfort with Lexi into a more immediate personal crisis.
Lexi repeatedly looks toward the empty seat reserved for Fezco. At home, he dresses carefully for the show and prepares flowers, expecting to keep his promise to attend. Custer's arrival interrupts those preparations, and Ashtray notices a private exchange between him and Faye. The episode leaves that confrontation unresolved rather than explaining Fezco's absence fully. As Nate walks away from Cassie and Lexi continues performing, the story pauses with both the auditorium and Fezco's house on the brink of disruption.
