Cassie's childhood includes an abandoned skating ambition, her parents' separation and her father's worsening addiction. In the present, she learns that she is pregnant and eventually tells McKay, who says they are not ready to become parents. A discussion with her friends turns hostile when Maddy criticizes Kat's changed behavior. Kat leaves upset, and later ends an online session when an unseen client makes her uncomfortable.
Rue suspects Nate has manipulated the investigation into Maddy's injuries. With Lexi, she pieces together his pressure on Tyler and Jules, imagining their work as a detective story. That burst of activity gives way to severe depression. Rue stays in bed watching television and struggles to meet basic physical needs, while Leslie tries to help her. Staying away from drugs has not removed her grief or the difficulty of ordinary days.
Jules visits friends in the city and meets Anna, finding a temporary escape from the pressure she feels at home. An intoxicated encounter includes imagined appearances by Nate and Rue, rather than a real meeting with Nate. Back in town, Fezco warns Nate to leave Rue and her friends alone. Nate retaliates by alerting police, forcing Fezco and Ashtray to dispose of their supply as officers arrive. Leslie cares for Rue at home, and Jules sends a message saying she misses her.
